Wright identifies four "echoes" that he believes are universal in human experience.
1. A longing for JUSTICE
2. A "SPIRITUAL HUNGER" or "Thirst" that longs to be satisfied.
3. A longing for RELATIONSHIP
4. An innate sense of and delight in BEAUTY
For Wright the "echoes of a Voice" are calling us into a world characterized not by the ugliness of sin but by the beauty of the sacred and the holy that is found in all things and whose source is God's infinite mercy, grace, peace, and love. There is . .
. . . . whispering in our inner ear-
someone who cares very much about this present world
and our present selves
and who has made us and the world for a purpose
which will indeed involve justice,
things being put to rights,
ourselves being put to right,
the world being rescued at least.
(p. 9, Simply Christian)
This message resonates with me even though there are some aspects of Wright's comments within the book that seem incomplete or in need of being framed differently. In his attempt to stay within what he perceived to be "traditional Christian teaching" he seems to lose the original beauty of his first thought on the matter.
I would like to hear how others out there react to this bit of teaching from Wright.
